Selong Belanak is where a lot of people catch their first wave. The bay is wide, the bottom is sand rather than reef, and the waves usually roll in slowly. You do not need to arrive knowing what you are doing: a lesson starts with the basics on the beach and moves at a pace that feels manageable.

Is Selong Belanak good for beginner surfers?

Selong Belanak is one of the friendlier beginner beaches in Lombok: a wide sandy bay with no reef underfoot, which is why many people catch their first wave here. Conditions still change from day to day, so it is worth asking before you paddle out.

Can Luana arrange a surf lesson?

Do I need to bring my own board?

No. A board is arranged with your lesson, and boards can also be rented at the beach for the day.

I have never surfed before. Is that a problem?

Not at all. The first session is about getting comfortable with the board, the water and the basics — everything after that comes at your own pace. Most guests who book a first lesson have never stood on a board.
